I’ve been thinking about a new logo for my personal brand for quite some time now. Over the last few weeks, I’ve sketched a few things out but in the end I was never satisfied with anything that I was coming up with.
Late last night, inspiration struck me as I was experimenting with various different letter-form designs. For instance, angled vs. rounded, overlapping, adjacent, I tried all sorts of different compositions. Eventually, I “struck gold” and developed 2 designs that I was particularly fond of. These two designs are pictured below:
However, I didn’t arrive at these two designs instantly. It actually took several days, and a lot of trial and error before I came up with designs that I actually liked.
Once I was happy with two concepts, I moved forward into Adobe Illustrator. I could have scanned this into Adobe Illustrator and used it as a template, or guide, but this design was so simple that wasn’t really necessary. I would take that approach, however, for a more complicated illustration, or composition. Like a portrait, or a poster that doesn’t have a minimal design.
With my logo, I wanted something “minimal” and “cool”, or “futuristic”, so I decided to draw the first concept in Illustrator before I attempted the second concept (because I kind of favored the first concept more, but it’s always good to have a “Plan B”, right?
I used a circle, and a square of equal size and the “Trim” option of the Pathfinder tool to create the design below. I must say, I’m quite pleased with the results. What do y’all think? Let me know in the comments below!
I’m available for branding and UI/UX design projects, and also I’m interested in doing design for print posters, brochures or packaging design.
